WHY?

The city was built in nature and nature has become something abstract in the cement of the city. With the Wild Plants Berlin Photo Tours I want to offer the opportunity to get to know Berlin from the green side.

Three spots are possible to discover with me. The huge green Tiergarten forest planned in the center of Berlin, the unplanned left Tempelhof airport field and the scientific view on plants diversity through the Botanical Garden in Berlin.

Before the tour, I will give input for a theme and with a project in mind we go together and search for motives. Afterwards we will review and combine the photos on double pages into an exciting story. Printed and bound the end product finds its place in the bookshelf.

WILD PLANTS PHOTO TOURS BERLIN

AS FLANEUR IN THE TIERGARTEN PARK

After being a battlefield, firewood and farming land in post-war Tiergarten Park was replanted and reconstructed.

It is an example how architecture is forming a dialectic between culture and nature.

Tiergarten Park combines different kind of areas. Really planned and constructed nature like the Englisch Garden, Rose Garden, Luisen island, and also monuments which appear in between a wilder forest to form a historical context.

As flaneur you search relaxation in the park and are walking on paths, crossing bridges, passing lakes by remembering the nature, where you are coming from.

TAKING A CLOSER LOOK IN THE  TEMPELHOF AIRPORT FIELD

Famous as the lifeline for West Berlin during the cold war, Tempelhof’s airfield had become the German capital’s biggest park.

Since it was turned over to the public in May 2010, the site has been immensely popular with families, joggers, urban gardeners, yoga enthusiasts, and hipsters smoke rises in summer from the abundance of barbecues.

There are large cement streets of the old rolling fields for the airplanes and then the huge green grasslands which get big play fields for everything.

This area seems to be outside the social controll of the city and open for ideas. It is wild and plants can naturally grow but you have to take a closer look to see the diversity.

The view towards the horizont and on the landscape gets here something romantic.

SEEING PLANTS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD IN THE BERLIN

BOTANICAL GARDEN

It was once an extension of the Berlin City Palace kitchen garden. The first collection of plants was brought here in 1573, before the concept of botanical gardens even existed. In 1809, Berlin University began to use this space for more scientific reasons.

The botanical garden complex consists of several different glass buildings, each designated to different kinds of plants, including cacti, an exquisite collection of orchids, and even some carnivorous varieties. The exterior spans across 14 hectares, including a splendid rose garden and there are different paths you can take for each season.

Here we will discover how the human looks in a scientific way on the nature and always trys to understand how it works. It is a collection of plants from all over the world, where a part of them only can survive in the artificial athmosphere of the glass houses
